Tony Sale, a retired computer historian, has with a small team of helpers rebuilt Colossus armed only with a few scraps of information to start with. The release in 1995 in America of some previously classified information on Colossus code-breaking procedures, and long discussions with the original designers Dr Tommy Flowers, Dr Arnold Lynch and others, gave Tony the insights he needed to recreate the pioneering machine.
Dr Tommy Flowers (in wheelchair) watches HRH the Duke of Kent switch on the Colossus rebuild on 6 June 1996. The year is significant as it was the 50th anniversary of the switch on of ENIAC! Tony Sale looks on proudly (and possibly a little anxiously) from the right.
